Zombie Walk 2012 Layout

I am super excited to share with you today my 2 page Zombie Walk 2012 layout. I've been wanting to create this layout ever since the Zombie Walk in October.

This was the 1st year we were able to participate and I wasn't gonna let anything get in my way. The week before I had received my 2nd round of chemo to treat my breast cancer. When I had my labs drawn the next week, the week of the Zombie Walk, it was determined I was neutropenic. Which basically means all of my blood counts were extremely low or zero and that made me very susceptible to infection. So I was ordered to receive neupogen shots over the next 5 days, the last day being the night of the Zombie Walk. Plus, the doctor did want me to get a blood transfusion but I refused for personally reasons.

So the day of the Zombie Walk my husband and I were frantically trying to finish my daughter's Sam costume and I was taking my daughters across town to The Railroad Park to attend the NICU Halloween event for preemie graduates, which my youngest daughter is.  We had a really nice time. I ran into a co-worker and the family that my daughter shared a room with in the NICU. The girls got their faces painted, road the merry-go-round and the train.  Then it was rush, rush, rush home, drop the kids off and then get my last neupogen shot. Plus during all of this I was trying to find a hospital gown to wear to the Zombie Walk.  Thankfully for my nurse at the hospital, she gave me one!  Then it was a rush to get home again, still trying to finish my daughter's Sam costume and get myself and youngest daughter ready for the Zombie Walk.

We ended up just a little late and missed the beginning of the walk but joined right in. I finally felt like I belonged somewhere. Everyone was dressed in their best zombie attire. My costume consisted of a brain cap (to wear over my bald head), hospital gown, some blood splatter, and I carried around my victim (Zombie Baby). I created my Zombie Baby for the Blogger Virtual Zombie Walk 2012  (please check it out). My husband was a nerd zombie that had a pencil sticking out of his head. My oldest daughter was Sam (yes we finished it) from the movie "Trick r' Treat." You can see all of the details about Sam HERE. And my youngest was Scooby Doo.  I had the absolute best time and will never miss another Zombie Walk.

Check out a close up of the brain...I am so pleased with the way it turned out!!!

Kaitlyn's School Turkey Project

November 2008 Kaitlyn, being in 1st grade at the time, had a project that the entire family had to help her make.  She came home from school with just the base of the turkey and she was instructed to be creative and this is what we came up with.

We took apart a pine cone and glued all of the pieces to the base and spray painted it gold.  While we waited for it to dry, my husband shaped pipe cleaners, some into the back tail feathers and the others into feet for the turkey.  I cut out the hat and the blurb on my Cricut.  I stamped the blurb with a Happy Thanksgiving stamp and attached some shiny leaves to the blurb.  I also used a gold pen to doodle on the hat and color in the band around the hat.  Once the body was dry we attached the tail and legs, hat, google eye, eye lash (left over from Halloween), fancy fur yarn, and Kaitlyn drew the details on the face of the Turkey.  Done!  I think it turned out so cute.

Here's a close up of the face and blurb:

This is Kaitlyn with her turkey at school:
Today I finally put this treasure in a shadow box to be a perminant decoration for Thanksgiving.  I love the way it looks in the frame and with the other Fall decorations:

I hope you enjoyed viewing our little family Thanksgiving project and have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Things That Go Bump in the Night

I just had to create this card when I saw what the challenge was over at Cardz TV for challenge #91.  I already knew in my mind it had to be zombie related because I love zombies and they scare the heck out of me.  The other part of this card was very important to me because I wanted the hand to come out of the ground.  Then I remembered I saw back in one of my magazines a gift bag someone had made that did exactly what I wanted my hand to do.  This is my attempt at what that person created.

I used these items to create this card:
  • Design Studio
  • Life's a Party Cricut cartridge for the tombstome
  • Happy Hauntings Cricut cartridge for the ghost, the hand, the name "Willy Rot"
  • Paper Doll Dress Up Cricut cartridge for the dirty mound
  • stickles
  • brad
  • Color Box ink
  • stencil brush
  • white gel pen
  • pop-dots
  • black pen
  • foam squares
  • misc. Halloween stamps
  • straw
  • floss

I am also entering this card in Paper Cutz Challenge #109 titled "Caution - Ghost Crossing!"  The requirements were to make a card, LO or craft project for Halloween using a Cricut cut, hand stamped or digital stamped ghosts, and the colors black, white, purple and orange ONLY!
I am also going to enter it in Lia Stamp Challenge #3 - move around which required the project to have a moving element and hopefully I achieved that here!!!  When you pull up on the ghost the hand rises from the grave...creeeeepy!!!
I am also entering this card in Getting Cricky - Simply Sunday Challenge which is anything Halloween!

I'm so excited this project was so much fun and it turned exactly the way I planned it...I hope you like it as much as I do!

****This was an article in Paper Crafts October 2008 and is where I got my inspiration from...I hope this is helpful to those of you who want to try this project.  I made my own alterations to achieve my card but by no means is it perfect.****

Wicked Best Witches - Happy Halloween card

Happy September 1st!!!  Another day closer to getting cooler.  It has been HELL on earth here in the desert and I will be so glad to get into Fall.  I did a little something different with this card...I used some stickers.  I can't even tell you the last time I used stickers for a project.  I came across these particular Halloween stickers in my stash and thought they'd be perfect to add that little extra something and that is exactly what they did.

I am entering this card in multiple challenges this week:
Bitten By the Bug2 required you to make a new project using your Cricut and a stamp with a fall theme
Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Me Monday 75 required you to add the colour yellow to your Cricut project
Wacky Wednesday 49 - Halloween at More than Favors - required your project to be Halloween theme
Cricut Cardz Challenge 90 required you to make a card using the card feature from any cartridge, use any colors and for any occassion
Paper Cutz Challenge 106 required you to make a card, layout or project using stars for any occassion and colors

I created this card in the Design Studio.

I used these Cricut cartridges:
Celebrations for the card base and inside of the card
Happy Hauntings for the witch (which I welded into the circle opening of the card) and the grave stone scene
Paper Doll Dress Up for the tree

I used the Cuttlebug to emboss the tree just to give it some texture.  I also inked the edges and some of the front of the tree.

I inked the grave stones with white, black and some green to give them a more realistic feel.

I added the stickers and stamped Happy Halloween on the front

On the inside I used a stamp from Bug Bites and some more stickers

I had so much fun creating this card and I think I might just be using some more stickers in the future!

Framed Spooky Clown - HDH 103 Carnival of Curiosities

When I first found out that the theme for Macabre Monday was HDH103 Carnival of Curiosities over at Haunted Design House I just knew I wanted to do something with a creepy clown.  Plus, over at Bitten by the Bug2 they are having a Happy Hauntings challenge and you are to create a project using a frame from that Cricut cartridge.  I had the idea to create a card using the skeleton frame to represent a mirror (you know like the ones you'd see at a creepy carnival attraction) and of course the creepy clown.  His face is translucent, almost ghost like and then you can see just a very slight dark image behind that face, it's a scull....SPOOOOOOKY!!!
I created this card in Design Studio.

I used these Cricut cartridges:
Happy Hauntings for the inside scull and frame, welded and cut at 8 1/4.  I also have 3 layers on the front of the frame.
Wrap it Up for the clown
Paper Doll Dress Up for the bow

I attached a tinsel like fuzzy ball to the top of the clown's hat and outlined his face with a white gel pen.  I flocked the clown's nose with Martha Stewart flock.  I used a clear stamp on the inside that just says, "SPOOKY."

I am so pleased with the way this turned out...totally creepy...the exact look I was going for!!!  I hope you like it too and thanks for stopping by!

Frightfully Delightful - Queen of the Damned *** WARNING *** This is a little twisted!

I created this card for HDH102 Queen of the Damned challenge, which requires a focus on royalty, crowns, and/or thrones and with a little creeptastic touch, over at Haunted Design House I made everything in Design Studio.  I used these Cricut cartridges:  Storybook for the swirly corners and the sign, Birthday Cakes for the queen, and Paper Doll Dress Up for the head and sword.  I used a stamp from BugBites - All Year Round stamp set  and some gem brads for the sign.  I used Martha Stewart glitter on the crown and just some craft paint for the blood.  I am so pleased with the way this turned out...totally what I was going for.  I know this kind of stuff isn't for everyone but this is just another side of me and with Halloween lurking around the corner I just couldn't resist being a little twisted for a change!

Here is the full-size 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 card...I hope you like it!
And a little bit more up close and personal with our queen.

Thanks for looking and I hope this doesn't make you think any differently of me!

Hey Pumpkin Pie card

Well, I'm kinda bummed...I originally was going to enter this card in Bitten By the Bug Pie Challenge-Paper Dolls Dress Up but I missed it so I have decided to enter it in the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge #73 - Piece of Cake! Create a project with a cupcake (or another baked good) .

Here are the details about this card:

I used Paper Doll Dress Up Cricut cartridge for the pie cut 3 times at 1 3/4 Real Dial size and then hand cut the pieces to make a pumpkin pie.
I used A Child's Year Cricut cartridge for the pumpkin cut at 2 1/2
I inked all the edges with Color Box inkpad
I stamped the pumpkin with a stamp I found in the dollar bin at Michael's.  I drew in the lines on the pumpkin, colored in the lettering with a LePlum maker, and stickled the small pumpkin
I used brads and twine for some decorative touches.

On the inside I used a stamp from My Craft Spot
Thanks for looking!!!
