Fall Straw Hat Girl

I can't tell you how long I have been wanting to make this. I know I have had that straw hat for at least 3 years. I also had all of the other items to create this hat for many years too. I think she turned out super cute. Living in the valley of the sun, Arizona, I don't get the Fall that I remember from my youth in New Jersey so I have to create it. As soon as September hits I start to bring out my Fall decorations so that it at least feels a little like Fall in my house. So I finally got all of the items out that I needed to create my hat and here she is.  I just love her!

Steampunk Junk Hat and Bracelet

Finally, I am getting a chance to get this out. I have been trying to finish this project all week and now I can say it is done. Haunted Design House has a Steampunk Junk challenge going on. To be honest I originally was not going to do this challenge because I am not familiar with Steampunk, but that made it all the more interesting for me to try this challenge.

So I had all of these items on hand and they were just waiting to be made into something:

I used these items to create my Steampunk Junk Hat and Bracelette:

  • large coffee can
  • lid from ice cream bucket
  • outside case to the First Aid waterproof adhesive tape
  • Antique Gold spray paint
  • Brown spray paint
  • white lace (that I stained with coffee and tea)
  • metal keys (Michael's)
  • metal buttons (I had in my stash)
  • paper flower (Michael's)
  • black velvet ribbon
  • metal bits (Michael's)
  • brads

The Bracelet:

And here is me wearing the hat and bracelet:

After all that, I really enjoyed this challenge and I can now say I learned what Steampunk is and I have to say, I like it!!! Thanks for stopping by and checking out my project.

Snowman Hat

So if you read my other post about how I long for the wonders of Winter then you can understand that I love making crafts for Winter...especially snowmen related!

I knew right away I had all of what I needed on hand to create my Snowman Hat. I spray painted a large coffee can and a piece of ply wood cut into a circle with black spray paint. I hot glued the coffee can to the wood. I then wrapped blue snowflake ribbon around the base of the coffee can. I then realized I had some icicle garland with my Winter decorations. I wrapped and super glued the icicle garland around the top of the coffee can. I then sprayed some spray adhesive to the top and brim of the hat and then sprinkled some buffalo snowflakes on it. Then I painted the edges of a pine cone and a portion of a gold berry pick with white craft paint. I also added some iridescent glitter to the berries. I pulled the holly leaves from another pick and attached them, the berries, pine cone and a large snowflake ornament to the hat. Lastly I super glued iridescent sequins and snowflakes around the entire hat.

This was a super easy and fun project and it will make an excellent addition to my growing Winter decorations. I'm so glad I saved those coffee cans...I wonder what I will do with the others?

I will be entering my Snowman Hat in the following challenges:

Happy New Year 2013 Party Hats

Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone is starting the new year off to a good start! I'm happy to be giving you a look at my first project of the New Year! I created a couple of New Year's party hats to help ring in the new year with my girls!

Here's is my youngest daughter wearing her hat proudly!

And here is my oldest daughter, looking a little bit tired just before midnight, wearing her hat.

Now since my youngest daughter went to sleep I borrowed her hat to wear, with my oldest daughter, while the New Year's Eve ball dropped!

I used these items to make my hats:
  • Life's a Party Cricut cartridge - hats
  • Lyrical Letters Cricut cartridge - "Happy New Year" and "2013"
  • feathers (stash)
  • ribbon (stash)
  • Martha Stewart glitter (I've had for over a year)
  • DCWV the Glitter cardstock stack (I've had for probably 2 years) - hats
  •

This was such a fun and easy project, I will for sure be making more party hats in the future! Thank you for stopping by and checking out my New Year's party hats!

Above is what I think is the front (you might think it is the back).

Here you have one of the side views:
